#16 Alaska: Arctic Barnabas Ministries

In this episode, we venture into the snow and ice of Alaska to be with Arctic Barnabas Ministries. 

They take us along for a cold and crazy ride, as we help out with their women's retreat and get our hands dirty with their construction team. 

We also tread the arctic circle to take a missionary's son on his first flight lesson for his 13th birthday.

Dilley, Terry & Gloria

Terry and Gloria volunteered with Arctic Barnabas for the summer of 2008 and were accepted as associate staff members in late fall. 

Terry is a retired psychologist, commercial pilot, and an A & P mechanic. 

Gloria works with the Office of Children’s Services for the State of Alaska.

They lived in Southeast Alaska for more than thirty years.

Dillingham, Rob & Kristi

Rob serves Arctic Barnabas as Chief Pilot, manages
technical services, and assists the Director of
Aviation. Ten years and 6,000 flight hours in Alaska well prepared him for ABM. 

Kristi earned a Bible certificate from Alaska Bible College and a bachelor’s in nursing at the University of Alaska Anchorage. She now occasionally fills in for nurses in the Kenai community. 

Their children are Leah, Jeremiah, and Rebekah.

Hamlow, Craig & Karen

Craig and Karen were married in 1997 and have three children: Derek, Katie, and Luke. 

Craig served as a youth pastor for 7 years in Seattle before moving to Tennessee in 1999 to pursue aviation at Moody Aviation.  

Craig serves as a pastor to pasotrs in the remote villages of Alaska while Karen serves as an administrative assistant to the Director of the Women’s Ministry at Arctic Barnabas.

Hassemer, Mike & Ranada

Mike and Ranada became acquainted with bush ministry on a vacation trip in 1999, which impassioned them for mission ministry in Alaska. 

Mike works with the many and varied MinuteMen projects. 

Ranada assists with a focus on the wives of bush Alaksa pastors and Missionaries. 

Hibbard, Dustin & Natalie

Dustin and Natalie met while students at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. 

Recognizing they walked parallel paths for a career in missions, they saw God’s hand lead them together for a lifetime of ministry.  

They arrived in Kenai to work with Arctic Barnabas in May, 2007, with son Skylar (born Nov. 2006) and soon after daughter Kaia (born June 2008).  

Mayer, Eric & Ginger

Eric and Ginger met in high school and married in 1982. About 11 years later, they both felt God moving them toward full-time missions.

Eighteen years of sheet metal and general contracting in California prepared Eric to lead the MinuteMen groups of Arctic Barnabas.  

Ginger coordinates ‘Encourage Her’ ministry, which
provides friendship, connection, and encouragement to wives of bush pastors and missionaries.

Peters, Conrad & MarJean

Conrad Peters serves ABM as Director of Pastoral Care. His bush trips, phone calls, counseling, and tracking team connections serve to encourage and strengthen pastor and missionary families throughout remote Alaska. 

MarJean’s years as a teacher, pastor’s wife, writer, and illustrator prepared her for her role as a writer and editor for ABM. 

Their oldest son, Jonathan, is the executive director of Arctic Barnabas.

Peters, Jonathan & Becky

Drawn toward missions and aviation, Jonthan earned a pilot’s license in 1994 and mechanic certification in 1997. In 2008, he moved with his family to Kenai for full-time ministry with Arctic Barnabas as the Director of Aircraft Maintenance.
He soon became ABM’s Executive Director, the position he now holds. 

Becky home schools the children and works with the women’s ministry.

Jonathan’s parents also serve with Arctic Barnabas.

Spady, Vince & Marylil

Vince and Marylil know the hardships of living in bush Alaska firsthand.  They taught and nurtured 35 children in a small eskimo village during the early ‘70s.  Now, they live in Soldotna where they enjoy serving alongside Arctic Barnabas Ministries, encouraging the local pastors and missionaries.

Zeigler, Matt & Natalie

Matt and Natalie met during high school in their youth group in Illinois. They both attended Moody Bible Institute where Natalie received her BA in Educational Ministries.  Matt later graduated with a BS in Missionary Aviation Technology from Moody Aviation.  

The Zeiglers began serving with ABM in 2005.  Matt serves as Director of Aviation, scheduling and piloting bush flights and overseeing aircraft maintenance and safety inspections.


#17 Haiti: Mission Aviation Fellowship

In this episode, we travel to Haiti to be with the missionaries of Mission Aviation Fellowship as they provide relief to the survivors of the 2010 earthquake.

We join in on the flights and take part in their food distribution and medical outreaches.

Boyd, John and Tanya

John and Tanya Boyd, along with their children Stuart , Ashleigh , and Alana, are in their 17th year of service with Mission Aviation Fellowship. They have served in Zaire/Congo before evacuating during the coup of 1996, then in Haiti, Lesotho, and South Africa as CEO for 4 years. Six years ago they accepted the call to serve at MAF-US Headquarters where John was Vice President of Ministry Advancement. In October 2007, John accepted the role as President and CEO. John and Tanya confirm that, “The most rewarding aspect of our ministry is seeing individuals and communities transformed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and helping meet the daily needs of suffering people.”

Broyles, Mike and Karen

Michael and Karen Broyles, along with their daughter Kaydence, came to serve God with MAF in Haiti in November 2006. As a pilot/mechanic family they share that their mission is to follow after Jesus’ heart to “go and teach all nations.” Excited about what God has in store for them with MAF, they have put their trust in His plan for their lives. Philippians 1:20, “I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.”

Edgerton, Todd & Jennifer

Todd and Jennifer Edgerton, and their children, Kyle and Megan, are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship, serving in Haiti as an aircraft maintenance specialist family.  God changed an interest in missions into a call to missionary service. Todd graduated from Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, with a degree in Engineering Physics, and then volunteered for six years with another mission in South America. During this time, his desire to serve in missionary aviation and with MAF continued to grow.

Krul, Jason & Willemien

Jason was born in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada. it wasn’t until after a youth conference that he learned to know Christ as his personal Saviour. He became aware of his calling into missions during a short-term missions trip. 
Wilhelmina was born in Ermelo, Holland. She gained an interest in missions at a young age. Wilhelmina went to college and studied Business Administration. 
Jason looks forward to serving as a pilot in Haiti – flying missionaries, national pastors, and medical personnel into hard-to-reach regions of the country.  Wilhelmina looks forward to using her administration skills, as well as her love for people, to assist in the local community, as well as helping out in the numerous orphanages. 

Lee, Becky

Becky Lee is the manager of Volunteer Ministries with MAF. She has served with MAF since 2007 and supervises those desiring to volunteer with MAF both overseas and in the U.S. Becky has traveled with MAF to Central Asia and Haiti. Her wealth of overseas ministry experiences in Italy, Germany, England and Eastern Europe prior to coming to MAF enhance her natural gifting of matching the heart and skills of volunteers to the right projects. Becky prayerfully and skillfully serves so that volunteers sacrificing their time and talents not only have tremendous impact for the ministry of MAF, but their own lives are also deeply touched.

Risser, Jason and Connie

Jason and Connie Risser, along with their children, Aaron , Luke, and Sarah, are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship. Jason is a flight instructor in the Aviation Resources Department in Nampa Idaho. His responsibilities include preparing new MAF pilots for service around the world. Having served in Africa with MAF for 15 years Jason brings extensive field experience to his role as mentor and trainer for those preparing to go.

White, Will and Julie

Will and Julie share that the highlight of their ministry this term has been being the hands and feet of Jesus by providing transportation, supplies, housing, encouragement, and support for missionaries and national church workers in Haiti.
Will's responsibilities have extended beyond the traditional pilot/mechanic role. As the Haiti Program Flight Scheduler, he takes requests by email and phone from local missionaries, teams coming from the US, and Haitian pastors and Christian worker, and coordinates them with the 3 aircraft and 7 pilots, as well as managing the ongoing maintenance schedule of the airplanes. The local church workers know they can rely on MAF 24/7 for emergency flights.

Williams, Mark and Glee

Mark and Glee Williams, with their children, Eric and Kirk, are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship. They have completed their fourth term of service in Haiti. Mark shares, “We have opened three new runways this past year and the possibility for ministry potential at these locations is exciting. When a new runway is established, it encourages new, much needed work to come to the area because of easier access. Ministries already established in the vicinity, who were struggling because of transportation difficulties, can now do more work because of the use of the airplane.”

Woodberry, John & Corinne

John and Corinne Woodberry, with their children Katharine and Daniel, are Mission Aviation Fellowship missionaries serving worldwide in Disaster Response. Since joining MAF in 1993, the Woodberry family served in Kalimantan, Indonesia, until 1997 when they were asked to help start a new program in Central Asia. Over their nine years managing the program in Central Asia, they saw the small team of just two families grow to more than 70 international staff (singles, couples, and children) and over 100 national staff. Because of inaccessibility, terrain, and security issues, they have helped enable, support, and provide the flight and communications support people need to serve in even the remotest areas.

#21 Kazakhstan: Bible Mission International

In this episode, we trek into Kazakhstan to help the workers of Bible Mission International serve the poor and spread the gospel.  

We organize care packages for needy families, deliver a new refrigerator to an orphanage, and give gifts to the children made by boys and girls in America.

However, it doesn't take long for us to discover some of the challenges Christians face in this region of the world.

In this episode, we travel to Romania to visit the Soritau Family.  Their story is a prime example of how God uses life struggles to produce God-glorifying fruit.  

Join us as we invade the hospitals and homes of Oradea to share the hope of Christ with children suffering from cancer and other terminal illnesses.

Soritau, Elijah and Raelene

Elijah and Raelene met while students at Tennessee Temple University.  The couple moved to Elijah’s home country of Romania in 1999.  However, they returned to America in 2005 to help their daughter battle neuroblastoma cancer. After a five-year battle, she survived, and they returned to Romania to start a ministry serving terminally-ill children and their families.  Elijah and Raelene now have four children:

Elisha (back), Victoriana (middle), Karis (right) and Isaia (left).



#23 Bolivia
